By Byron Moore
Experiencing difficult things in life can hopefully bring about blessings and good, and sometimes we discover our purpose and calling in surprising ways. That’s my story. When I was young, I unexpectedly lost my mother. When a financial advisor stepped in to help with the financial side of that loss, it made a huge impact on me. I realized that helping people with their finances is not just about managing money, it’s about helping people improve their lives.
When it came time to decide on a career path, I knew I wanted to do something where I could have a significant influence on people’s lives while using my passions and skills. When it comes down to it, helping people manage their money is more about the people than their finances. Money, and how you handle it, can bring about stress and strife, or it can bring about blessings and abundance. I became a financial advisor so that by helping people with their money, I am helping them with the rest of their lives as well.
Getting Started
Knowing I wanted to use my skills and interest in finance to help others live life without the worry and stress that often comes with managing money, I went to college to earn a degree in Finance and Investment, earning my MBA at Wagner College. I first became an advisor in the early 2000s, working with Quick and Reilly. Eventually, I went on to work for other larger firms, including serving as Vice President at Capital One. While my time working for other companies taught me valuable lessons and enhanced my skills, I have always wanted to own my own business. Working directly with clients, providing personalized service, education, and guidance brings me great satisfaction. I knew I could better serve my clients in a more direct capacity so I decided to take the leap of faith and start my firm.
Establishing My Career
In 2010 I went independent and the concept of Sovereign Wealth Management started so I could provide the highest level of fiduciary service to the clients I work with. As CEO and financial advisor, I work with clients in the Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia areas who are either preparing for retirement or are already in that stage of life. Many of my clients are still working and want to preserve the wealth they’ve accumulated and worked hard for, but they need someone they can trust to help them prepare a customized retirement strategy. Some clients I help are already enjoying retirement but are navigating different market conditions and have unique challenges. The decisions they make or how the economy changes can affect their retirement lifestyle. Therefore, they must make smart decisions and manage their portfolio well. This is where I can add a lot of benefit by acting as a trusted partner and advisor to help guide them through this time.
More Than Just a Career
I work hard at what I do so I can become the best financial advisor I can be and help more people achieve financial freedom and independence. But this job is more than just a career or profession for me. I’m passionate about helping my clients because I feel it is a calling or ministry to serve others by providing sound, fiduciary financial advice. One of the most fulfilling parts of my job is seeing the joy and sense of satisfaction my clients have when a goal is met, an achievement is made, or a recommendation I offer exceeds their expectations.
